Soybean

Also Called

soy bean, soya bean, dry soybean, dry soya bean

Description

Soybean is a legume native to East Asia, widely cultivated for its high protein content and broad culinary and industrial uses. Highly versatile, it can be used for direct cooking or as a raw material for soy products such as tofu, soy milk, and soy flour. Both edamame and soybeans come from the same plant (Glycine max), but unlike edamame, which are harvested while still young and green, soybeans are fully mature, giving them a firmer texture and longer shelf life. Unless otherwise specified, the term “soybean” typically refers to dry soybeans.
